"Rejoined" is the sixth episode of the fourth season of the American science-fiction television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, originally airing on October 30, 1995. Marking one of the first televised lesbian kisses, it received a record volume of feedback from series viewers, both positive and negative. In the episode, Jadzia Dax struggles with taboo feelings for the widow of an individual whose body she used to inhabit as a symbiont. The episode was the first that series writers Ronald D. Moore and René Echevarria wrote together, and it was directed by main cast member Avery Brooks. The taboo was intended to be an allegory for homosexuality and homophobia. "Rejoined" received a Nielsen rating of seven percent on the first broadcast in syndication. Reviews of the episode were mostly positive, especially for the acting and the message, but the plot was faulted as tedious. (Full article...)

Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary

As of 2021, Vietnam has eight sites inscribed on the list of World Heritage Sites, and a further seven on the tentative list. Selected by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), World Heritage Sites are places of importance to cultural or natural heritage as described in the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, established in 1972. Vietnam accepted the convention on 19 October 1987, making its historical sites eligible for inclusion on the list. The first site in the country to be added to the list was the Complex of Huế Monuments in 1993. Two cultural sites from Quảng Nam were listed in 1999: Hội An Ancient Town and Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary (pictured). Further sites were added in 1994, 2003, 2010, and 2016, when Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex was inscribed as the first mixed site in Southeast Asia. (Full list...)

The marsh fritillary (Euphydryas aurinia) is a species of butterfly of the family Nymphalidae, found in the Palearctic region. Females are larger and less vibrant in color than males. Due to their short lifespan, females mate soon after they emerge from the chrysalis. They bear so many eggs that they crawl to nearby vegetation to start laying them, being unable to fly far until they are less burdened. These two marsh fritillaries were photographed in Dorset, England, while mating; the male is on the left of the image and the female on the right.
