Portal:Fishing

Portal:Fishing (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Micro-portal abandoned since 2007, apart from formatting tweaks.

Created[1] in May 2007‎ by Bu b0y2007 (talk · contribs). The lead of WP:POG has said since late 2006 "Do not create a portal if you do not intend to assist in its regular maintenance", but that has not happened here: Bu b0y2007 made fewer than 500 edits (nearly fishing-realed and over a quarter of them to this portal) before their last edit in late 2007.

Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Fishing shows a modest set of sub-pages, built around the once-fashionable notion that portals would be like monthly magazines, with all contents replaced each month, and archived like a set of back issues. Very few portals sustained that model, and this is not of the rare exceptions: the sub-pages are all dated between July 2007 and December 2007.

The result is that since the version of 4 December 2007, this portal has been a static display of 4 pages:

WP:POG guides that portals should be about "broad subject areas, which are likely to attract large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers". But this has attracted zero maintainers since its creator moved on, and it gets hardly any readers: in Jan–Feb 2019 it had an average of only 12 pageviews per day, a mere 1.7% of the 690 daily views for the head article Fishing.

I usually propose that abandoned portals be deleted per WP:TNT, without prejudice to re-creation. But given this portals' long history of exceptionally complete abandonment, I think it's better to just delete this portal and all its sub-pages. • Delete - As per the above analysis, the subject area may be a broad area, but has been shown a posteriori not to be attracting large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:46, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
