I'm concerned about how few candidates have come forward with us this far into the nominations period. I realize there is still much more time to go, but in contrast to last year, after three days at least nine individuals had come forward with some even having withdrawn. I sincerely hope the committee members whose terms are expiring are planning on putting themselves up again. As well, I hope some of the former members will also consider putting themselves up for another term.
There are seven committee seats available and I think now more than ever it is important for there to be diversity and variety. Apart of why I even entertained the notion of putting myself forward was to encourage others to step forward. I'm confident there are plenty of qualified editors out there; some way more qualified and better suited than I am. Candidates that I would have no problem withdrawing if they came forward. I do see that sometimes withdrawing to give way to other candidates adds another dynamic to the process so I'll state my commitment now that I won't withdraw, but I sincerely hope others do come forward.
Also, if a Canadian is going to be appointed, it should be Salvidrim! =) Seems like we have multiple Canadians running now. All fine choices.
