There is a mop reserved in your name
You are a remarkable editor in many ways. You would be a good administrator, in my opinion, and appear to be well qualified. You personify an administrator without tools and have gained my support already! |
Maliner (talk) 20:56, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- You're not an admin? Queen of ♡ | speak 21:08, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- Seconded. You have my support, (also I just remebered that I should work on afdstats, thank you for the work you do on maintaining it) Sohom (talk) 21:37, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yep, good work with those page moves yesterday. Mind numbingly tedious but the essence of necessary mop work. ——Serial Number 54129 17:29, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Maliner, Queen of Hearts, Sohom Datta, Serial Number 54129: Thanks all. I've been hesitant to devote the time and effort needed for a traditional RfA, as my personal life often interferes in unexpected ways, but I've been considering WP:AELECT if/when that happens. --Ahecht (TALK

RFA2024 update: phase I concluded, phase II begins
Hi there! Phase I of the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review has concluded, with several impactful changes gaining community consensus and proceeding to various stages of implementation. Some proposals will be implemented in full outright; others will be discussed at phase II before being implemented; and still others will proceed on a trial basis before being brought to phase II. The following proposals have gained consensus:
- Proposals 2 and 9b (phase II discussion): Add a reminder of civility norms at RfA and Require links for claims of specific policy violations
- Proposal 3b (in trial): Make the first two days discussion-only
- Proposal 13 (in trial): Admin elections
- Proposal 14 (implemented): Suffrage requirements
- Proposals 16 and 16c (phase II discussion): Allow the community to initiate recall RfAs and Community recall process based on dewiki
- Proposal 17 (phase II discussion): Have named Admins/crats to monitor infractions
- Proposal 24 (phase II discussion): Provide better mentoring for becoming an admin and the RfA process
- Proposal 25 (implemented): Require nominees to be extended confirmed
See the project page for a full list of proposals and their outcomes. A huge thank-you to everyone who has participated so far :) looking forward to seeing lots of hard work become a reality in phase II. theleekycauldron (talk), via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:08, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
North East Combined Authority talk page
Hi Ahecht. Thank you for responding to my technical request and moving North East Combined Authority to its current title. There is a little glitch though. The page's talk page redirects to another talk page. As I remember there wasn't much of note on the talk page but maybe you could take a look at it if you get a minute. Many thanks. - @Tammbeck Sorry, I must've accidentally unchecked the "move talk" option. --Ahecht (TALK

British or American
Hi. I hope you (being American) are neutral and don't reject British English (see: Wikipedia:Neutral point of view); and you didn't fix everything, for example on one page you restored a word I had written in British English, but not the other terms. JacktheBrown (talk) 13:05, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- @JackkBrown I've been trying to restore the status quo, mostly just removing the British English tag and leaving it neutral, and only changing it to American English in a few rare cases where the article had clear Americanisms ("cookie", "flavor", etc.) and no British spellings. I've been trying to leave your British English tag in cases where British spelling was already being used. If I missed a few or misjudged the status-quo, feel free to point it out to me or revert my changes. --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 13:23, 15 May 2024 (UTC)- @Ahecht: regarding the other articles I don't know, but is the bruschetta page written ONLY in American English? JacktheBrown (talk) 13:30, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- @JackkBrown, they actually could have used rollback, per WP:ROLLBACKUSE.
- Re: Bruschetta, it looks like it's in AmEng except for appetiser, which it looks like you changed from appetizer? Valereee (talk) 13:38, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Valereee: if the article is written ENTIRELY in American English, "appetiser" is incorrect. But if both English (except "appetiser-appetizer") are used, it's fair to choose which one to use. JacktheBrown (talk) 13:41, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I changed it yesterday; that's why I asked if the article is written entirely (except for that term) in American English. JacktheBrown (talk) 13:42, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- @JackkBrown, are you asking whether as a native speaker of AmEng, I can confirm that it appears to be written in AmEng? Yes. Maybe as a person whose native tongue is Italian, you should stop changing anything to BrEng. It's disruptive. I feel like I should probably go check all your edits. Which is a huge undertaking, as I am so comfortable with both variants that not everything even jumps out at me. When did you start doing this? Valereee (talk) 14:12, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Valereee: in fact, I stopped since yesterday. JacktheBrown (talk) 14:15, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- Good to hear. Do you recall when you started? I really dread the thought of having to check 60,000 edits lol... Valereee (talk) 14:17, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Valereee: I only did this for Italian foods, it would be sufficient to check them all (see here: List of Italian foods and drinks). JacktheBrown (talk) 14:21, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, is that what you've been working from, thanks! Valereee (talk) 14:26, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Valereee: just check the most common words ("'flavor", "recognized", "'appetizer" (especially these three), "color", etc.) and get a bot to work, or even Ahecht, which has done a great job so far. JacktheBrown (talk) 14:32, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- Ahecht, would you like to continue the work? Obviously, I don't want to rush you. JacktheBrown (talk) 14:54, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- @JackkBrown I've been working through them slowly when I have downtime. --Ahecht (TALK

- @Valereee Actually, in this case, because AnomieBot went and dated all the tags after they were placed, I can't do a simple rollback (at least not from the Contribs page). As for Bruscetta, as of Special:Permalink/1176284276 it was entirely American English ("appetizer"). --Ahecht (TALK

Italian foods
You're doing a great job; you have corrected other things too, thank you very much! Of course I have no doubts about you, but I would like to know if you have deleted only my additions concerning British English or if you have also changed the consolidated English of some articles; thank you very much for your work. JacktheBrown (talk) 22:22, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- There have been a few articles where I've come across an earlier switch that I've reverted (such as this 2014 edit to Ossobuco) and a few where I've changed mixed usage to British English to reflect earlier established usage. --Ahecht (TALK
