I'm Axel Downard-Wilke. I'm a civil engineer by training and work as a traffic engineer and transport planner. Prior to university, I was an advocate for sustainable transport and I've turned that interest into my profession. I lived in Christchurch for 25 years and have lived in Parapara in Golden Bay / Mohua since October 2021. I've been an admin on the English Wikipedia since 2017.

Having chosen New Zealand as my home, I take an interest in anything from my adopted country. I have a special interest in:

  • geography (built environment and water),
  • history
  • people
  • politics
  • civil engineering
  • transport (especially sustainable transport)
  • between December 2017 and August 2018 I wrote articles for the European Rowing Championships covering the editions from 1893 to 1973 (65 articles) plus started circa 450 rowing bios in support of that exercise
