Please don't erase

Please don't erase this article. Salaskar was one of India's best encounter specialists. Reasons have been given by people here. -- Sreejith Kumar (talk) 16:33, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merger discussion

all sources cited are in context of Salaskar's death. Notability is thus not established for anything but mention at Casualties of the 2008 Mumbai attacks (WP:NOTMEMORIAL). If any source can be presented that discusses the subject's actual biography, independent of his recent death, fine. If not, merge to a list of casualties. --dab (𒁳) 09:36, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Salaskar did enjoy coverages as an encounter specialist during his lifetime. Here is one link http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/3786645.stm. Shovon (talk) 10:48, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
One more thing. How can articles published in 1999, 2004 or 2007 can be in the context of Salaskar's death? Shovon (talk) 10:50, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • OPPOSE I am gainst merging this article--Suyogtalk to me! 14:55, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: Same as reasons in Afd. The person was notable before being a causality of 26/11. Ref available there. --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:58, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks all for saving this article Please also save Ashok Kamtes article (a Swiss man desperitely wants to delet Ashok sir's article) and Hement sir's article.--Suyogtalk to me! 15:11, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think Vijay Salaskar meets the notability criterion because of his role as a encounter specialist, before his death in the Mumbai attacks. But again, as I said on the Hemant Karkare talkpage, someone should make the effort at sourcing, organizing and copyediting these articles. Abecedare (talk) 07:44, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Today's news says that he has been nominated for Ashoka Chakra Award, which is the highest gallantry award in India during peacetime. Guess, that takes care of all the notability issues. I would still wait till 25th Jan, when it is officially declared. Shovon (talk) 02:20, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edited the marathi language(devanagri script) ळ in the name "Salaskar" to correctly represent the phonetic pronunciation of the "L" letter.
