Landi Renzo S.p.A (also called just Landi) is a multinational company headquartered in Cavriago, Province of Reggio Emilia, Italy. Landi produces autogas and compressed natural gas kits for cars. It is listed on Euronext Milan.[1]

The Group has two product lines: LPG or methane (CNG) fuel systems for catalyzed (Lambda probe) or non-catalyzed electronic fuel injection engines and carburettors, serving both OEMs (vehicle manufacturers) and the aftermarket (retailers and independent importers).[2][3][4]

History

The company was established in 1954 when Renzo Landi and his wife Giovannina Domenichini founded Officine Meccaniche Renzo Landi in Reggio Emilia, the only manufacturer of mixers designed for all kinds of vehicles.[5][6]

Between 1963 and 1964 the company began exporting to Japan, France, Belgium, and The Netherlands.

In 1968, the company developed a new type of pressure reducer called RENZOMATIC, solving the idling issue in LPG-powered engines.[7]

Renzo Landi passed away in 1977. The company continued under the management of his wife and son, Stefano. In 1987, Stefano became Managing Director, when the company became a Joint Stock Company, officially launching Landi Renzo S.p.A.[8]

In 1980, the company developed the TN.1, an electronically-controlled pressure reducer for methane fuel systems. This product became the mandatory reference for approvals.

In 1995, the company acquired its Dutch competitor Eurogas Holding, which owned the manufacturer Eurogas Utrecht, and set up subsidiaries in Poland and China.[9][10]

In 2000, the company purchased Med S.p.A. in Reggio Emilia. In 2001, 70% of Eurogas Holding B.V. was sold and Eurogas Utrecht B.V. was purchased by the company's subsidiary, Landi International B.V.[10]  At the same year, Landi Renzo SpA became the first to receive ISO TS 16949 certification.[11]

The expanded market continued with the opening of branches in Brazil in 2003, China in 2005, and Pakistan in 2006. That same year, the LANDIRENZO Corporate University was established as a center for ideas and human resource development within the Landi Group.[12][13]

In 2008, the company acquired Lovato Gas SpA, the world's third-largest operator with 10% of the market.[14]  In September 2009 the company opened another international branch, Landi Renzo RO in Bucharest, Romania.[15]

In 2010, the company acquired the Italian manufacturer A.E.B. srl and the American Baytech Corp.,[16] alongside the opening of subsidiaries in Romania, Venezuela, Argentina, India and the United States.[17][18]

In 2013, Landi Renzo established OEM division with separate management to specifically serve the needs of global OEM clients.[19]  In 2017, Landi Renzo announced it has obtained CARB certification for the 2018 model year vehicles.[20]

In February 2019, Landi Renzo signed an exclusive partnership with Ford India to convert the new Ford Aspire to natural gas. In the same year, Landi Renzo Brasil and Uber partnered to improve air quality in Brazilian cities. The collaboration contract allows Uber drivers across South America to have Landi Renzo gas fuel systems installed, with authorized Landi Renzo workshops providing after-sales assistance.[21]

In December 2020, Landi Renzo Group signed an agreement with the Egyptian National Organization for Military Production (NOMP) to create a 50% joint venture in Egypt for producing and selling components and systems to convert vehicles to methane.[22][23][24]

In 2021, Landi Renzo completed the acquisition of 49% of the share capital of Metatron, a Castel Maggiore-based company in alternative fuel technology for the Mid and Heavy Duty sector.[25][26][27]

In 2022, FPT Industrial together with Landi Renzo developed the Hythane On-Board Blending (OBB) system, which enables the direct mixing of hydrogen and methane (Hythane) inside the vehicle.[28][29][30]

In July 2023, the company appointed Annalisa Stupenengo as CEO and General Manager.[31]
