The 1822 Virginia gubernatorial election was held on 30 November 1822 in order to elect the Governor of Virginia. Incumbent Democratic-Republican United States Senator from Virginia and former nominee for Governor in the Virginia gubernatorial election of 1813 James Pleasants defeated George Hay and incumbent Democratic-Republican Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates and former nominee for Governor in the Virginia gubernatorial election of 1819 Linn Banks in a Virginia General Assembly vote.[1][2]
On election day, 30 November 1822, Democratic-Republican nominee James Pleasants won the election against his foremost opponent George Hay. Pleasants was sworn in as the 22nd Governor of Virginia on 1 December 1822.[3]
