The murder of Umesh Kolhe a pharmacist from Amravati in the state of Maharashtra, India was carried out by stabbing on June 21, 2022.[1] The police arrested several people, who according to them, admitted to killing Kolhe for what he posted about Nupur Sharma, who was involved in the 2022 Prophet remarks row. The police released CCTV footage that showed the assailants following Kolhe around 10 OM on June 21.[1] The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had take over the probe of the killing to assess any possible links to the Udaipur murder.[2]

Murder

On June 1, 2022, pharmacist Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe was stabbed to death while returning home on his scooter after closing his pharmacy ‘Amit Medical Store’ near Ghantaghar in Shyam chowk area of Amravati, Maharashtra.[3] Kolhe's son Sanket and his wife Vaishnavi were accompanying him on another scooter.[4]

Sanket told the police, “We were moving from Prabhat Chowk and our scooters had reached the Mahila College New High School’s gate. Two men on a motorcycle suddenly came in front of my father’s scooter. They stopped my father’s bike and one of them stabbed him on the left side of his neck with a knife. My father fell and was bleeding. I stopped my scooter and started shouting for help. Another man came and the three fled the spot on the motorcycle.”[4]
